Overview
Lips lose volume and definition over time: the vermilion border blurs, the philtral columns flatten, the upper lip lengthens, and fine vertical lines develop. Hyaluronic acid filler restores volume and re-establishes those landmarks. Because HA binds water, it also improves hydration and texture within the lip tissue itself.
Dr. Zaks approaches lips as a shaping procedure, not a volumizing one. He uses soft, flexible HA formulations from the Restylane® and Evolysse™ lines, typically starting with a small amount — often half a syringe to one syringe — and building over visits if you want more. Every injection is performed by Dr. Zaks personally.

Consultation and goal setting
Dr. Zaks examines lip proportion, symmetry, and border definition, and discusses exactly what change you want and what is achievable naturally.
Shaping injections
Small aliquots are placed in the body and border of the lip with frequent mirror checks. Volume is added gradually rather than all at once.
Recovery
Lips swell more than other areas — expect noticeable swelling for two to four days and possible bruising. Ice, head elevation, and avoiding salt and alcohol help. Final shape appears at about two weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will my lips look obviously done?
No — “obviously done” is not the goal. Dr. Zaks takes a conservative approach, adding small amounts to improve shape and structure while keeping the result believable. Most first treatments use half to one syringe, and more can be added later if you want it.
How long do lip fillers last?
Usually around six to twelve months. Lips are constantly in motion, so filler metabolizes faster here than in the cheeks.
How bad is the swelling?
Meaningful swelling for the first two to four days is normal and expected. Don't schedule a major event within a week of treatment.
Is lip filler painful?
It is the most sensitive area treated, but the filler contains lidocaine and injections are placed slowly in small amounts. Most patients describe it as very manageable.
